Oh yeah. As well as Cat Stevens and a bunch of other singer songwriters.

I'm glad to hear that you came to appreciate Tim Hardin's songwriting.

The glimpse you had of him was typical. He was a haunted man and I don't know why. It may have been biological rather than situational. However, in my opinion he was one of the first, if not the first, to write original songs in the folk style with real emotional depth, and certainly the best.

I saw him perform six or seven times, sometimes he was wonderful, sometimes not. In every case he had no stage presence, more of a musician and writer than a performer.

His best friend in the folk circuit was Fred Neil, who was a very similar man and, like Tim Hardin, had his biggest success with a cover, "Everybody's Talkin' at Me".

I'm curious, did you ever find anything you liked about Carole King or James Taylor?

I never replied to you regarding Carole King and James Taylor. The answer is yes to both, although I would say my feelings for each of them were less passionate than my feelings for Hardin. Hardin was a much more obvious role model for me than either King or Taylor (although apparently Taylor was a heroin user).
